The term Black Gold is generally a reference to crude oil but that is not the case with us. To us Black Gold means Carbon Black - why? - I will explain later.

Carbon Black is virtually pure elemental carbon in the form of colloidal particles produced by raw incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons under very controlled conditions. It is used in many different applications such as in tyres, plastic products and printing inks. There are two carbon black manufacturing processes, thermal black and furnace black with the latter being the most common. It uses heavy aromatic oils as feedstock.

Around 9 million tonnes are manufactured worldwide with around 90% being used in rubber applications.

So why do we at Primasonics International refer to it as ‘black gold’?

Well some years ago our acoustic cleaners were installed in carbon black silos in Hungary as they had a big problem with the fine material building up on the side walls of their large round silos. They purchased the powerful Model PAS-60 acoustic cleaner for each silo and reported great success with the side wall build up problem eliminated.

Since then our acoustic cleaners have been employed worldwide in carbon black silos in such prestige companies as
Birla Carbon, Continental Carbon and Cabot Corporation.
