A Shattering Experience - I Think Not!
Over the years I have heard many stories of opera singers being able to shatter a glass simply by using their voice. Is this true - well yes it certainly is true!
In order to achieve this the singer must sing the same musical note that matches the resonant frequency of the glass, the sound waves will vibrate the air particles around the glass at its resonance frequency. This will make the glass begin to vibrate. If a singer sings loudly enough, that is to say the sound reaches a high enough volume, the vibrations can cause the glass to vibrate so hard that the glass shatters under the strain. It has been shown that whereas a normal human voice is around 50 decibel, 105 decibel or louder is required to cause the glass to shatter.
Have a look at this video link to see for yourself how the human voice can shatter a wine glass.
This ‘resonant frequency’ factor is a very important factor which we take into consideration in the design and performance of our range of Primasonics Audiosonic Acoustic Cleaners - why? Well every ‘structure’ (e.g. glass, metal, concrete etc.) has its own natural resonant frequency and if ignored can lead to serious problems, let me explain further. Our range of acoustic cleaners are designed to be within the frequency range 420 Hz down to 60 Hz which are way above the resonance frequencies of say a concrete silo or a metal boiler. It is only when you get down into the Infrasonic frequency range (i.e. below 20 Hz) that it becomes close to the resonant frequencies of steel and concrete structures with the possibility of structural damage.
So, whilst the Primasonics range of acoustic cleaners offer superb debonding of powders, granules or ash; absolutely no damage will be caused to the vessel or structure and we have on-site research studies carried out in conjunction with the Acoustic Research Department of the University of Liverpool to prove that this is correct.
Our range of acoustic cleaners will provide safe, outstanding performance without turning it into a shattering experience!
